The Texas Tornado
Becoming a Legend
Tristan Peña, “The Texas Tornado,” was born and raised in San Antonio, Tx.
He started pursuing his passion in racing at the age of seven, racing Quarter Midgets in May of 2018, he joined mid-season as a rookie driver.
He brought home Podium Finished and Wins his entire rookie season, as well as achieved a Regional Rookie Championship. The 2019 season was a huge success.
Tristan brought home podium WINS for more than 90% of his races!
2020-2022, Tristan transitioned to racing in the Senior classes; Sr Honda, Light 160, Senior Animal, and Light World Formula. He gained experience in racing various chassis manufacturers, securing podium spots in most of his races. Securing 5 Regional Championships throughout his quarter midget racing career: 2019 Jr Honda, 2021 2 Senior Honda, 2022 Senior Animal, 2022 Light World Formula, as well as earned “Driver of the Day” at one of the Regional Events.
At the end of 2022 season, he retired from quarter midget racing.
2023, Tristan achieved a big milestone in his racing career, transitioning to racing a full-size race car, also known as a late model.
Tristan was 1 of 16 drivers that was approved to compete in the 2023 MavTV fifty-one Fifty Jr Late Model Series at Madera Speedway in California.
He finished in the Top 5 in 5 of the 9 races. In the final race of the season, he achieved his Best Finish, second Tristan concluded his Rookie Season fifth in points and earned the “Most Improved Driver of the year” award.
2024 season – 2nd year competing in Jr Late Model series at Madera Speedway in California.
The team focused on leveling up their goals this season, as our ultimate goal for the following season was to move up to the Pro Late model class, where Tristan would be competing with more experienced drivers, as well as adults Invested in better equipment to find more speed in our car and setup Focused on Driver accountability and development. The season was full of some lows and some BIG highs… Lows consisted of a few mechanical failures and a few instances of getting caught up in racing incidents that prevented him from finishing a few races that season
BIG Highs – He achieved his First WIN in a Late Model – The Team worked hard for this moment, and it was a memory that we will all never forget… It was an emotional WIN for everyone involved.
Overall, the team conquered their goals and dominated when Tristan was on track – qualified in the pole position 3 times that year (which means he was the fastest car in the qualifying session) and brought home the checkered flag 3 times (3 Wins total this season). It was a huge milestone and team accomplishment to put the #50 in Victory Lane… 3 times! It was a perfect end to our Jr Late Model Racing Career!
The 2025 Season is a Pivotal year for Tristan’s racing career!
Due to Tristan turning 14yr old and spending the last 2 seasons in Jr Late models, Tristan and team transitioned to competing in the ProLate model class and ProTrucks, making him one of the youngest drivers in both series. In addition to moving up in racing classes, Tristan and the team will be traveling to all NEW tracks, as well as increasing the level of competition and getting more visibility of his talent, but also more visibility for our sponsors and partners!
We are 3 races into the season… every race so far has been a big learning and development curve for Tristan. Adapting to racing at a faster speed as he was competing in a restricted 602 motor the last 2 seasons, and this season he transitioned to racing a 604 motor, which is much faster Learning new tracks of all different sizes, from Roseville All American Speedway 1/3-mile, Bullring at Las Vegas Motor speedway 3/8-mile, to Kevin Harvick Kern Raceway 1/2-mile. Competing with all ages, 14+ to adults, more experienced drivers across the country.
Finishes so far:
- Debut 1st race, qualified 5th, finished Top 10
- 2nd race, qualified 3rd, and finished 3rd place (Podium Finish)
- 3rd race, qualified 7th, got up to 6th position, brake failure ended his race night early.
Continuing On
Also, this season, Tristan will be competing in a ProTruck at Houston Motorsports Park, in between his pro late model races. The truck operation is much smaller, as it more of Jason and Tristan working on the truck together in the garage, loading it up in our family trailer, and driving to our closest home track for the weekend to do what they love best… RACE. Of course, their goal of WINNING never changes no matter what track or racecar they show up in.
Our Team Sponsors
Our Extended Family
Our TEAM and SPONSORS are the heart of our Racing Program, as WE could not RACE at this level without them…
Racing is NOT cheap… from registration fees, tires, race car parts/maintaince, competitive equipment, the team of people you need to make it all work, traveling…and one of the most expensive things is everyone’s TIME. It’s a high time investment and sacrifice.
Our family lives and breathes racing, on and off track.
Tristan’s father Jason, is working on our racing program EVERYDAY while running a very successful business, Blackjack Speed Shop. He is also a devoted husband and father. He is continuously focused on maintaining our active partnerships and working on getting new sponsorships for the current year and future seasons.
Between each race, he is collaborating with the team on our learnings from every race event, and what we need to do to continue to get better.
Over the last 7 years of racing, we’ve been so blessed to have had several strong partnerships/sponsors to help Tristan continue to follow his passion for racing.
